Is being a pack leader the best way to train your dog?

Many dog trainers believe that to train your dog correctly you should become the pack leader. Certainly one of the most famous dog trainers Cesar Milan certainly promotes this type of dog training. His theory is that in the wild puppies look unto their mother for guidance and as a role model and the young puppies follow her lead as pack leader. gradually through calm assertive gestures she will teach her pups what is right or wrong.

Other dog trainers believe that this assertive type of training can demoralise a dog into being submissive. This is often referred to as alpha rolling and question whether it is fair and reasonable. If you do this to your dog and he doesn't get up, he's shut down.

One of the biggest mistakes people make is to try and imitate natural dog behaviour. Your dog actually knows that you are not a dog and this may well just confuse your dog. By the time you actually get the dog to lie still, the point you were trying to make is long gone.

So who is right we would love to know what all you dog owners think about the pros and cons of this type of dog training. Please email us at sales@easyanimal.co.uk
