Father loses Facebook bet with children; buys them a cat
A father has been forced to buy his children a cat after a Facebook plan backfired, metro.co.uk reports.
American Dan Urbano was fielding regular requests from his children (seven-year old Remi and one-year old Evelyn) to buy them a cat. In response, Urbano set them a wager, betting they couldn’t upload a picture to Facebook which would achieve 1,000 likes. If they managed to do it, he promised to buy them a cat.
Shortly afterward a picture was uploaded featuring the two siblings, with Remi holding a whiteboard reading: “Hey Facebook! My sister and I really want a cat! My Papa promises we can get one if we can get 1,000 likes! Please like this picture! Thank you.”
What followed shocked all those involved, however, as the picture beat the 1,000 likes threshold with ease, eventually going on to garner over 118,000, with the total still growing.
True to his word, Urbano then bought his children a cat, which they duly christened Hairietta L Pawturr, with the ‘L’ representing ‘Likes’. Despite some protestations on Facebook, Urbano bought just the one cat; fearful of where he’d keep over 100 pets and their collection of cat beds.
Speaking to abcnews.go.com of the story, the childrens’ mother, Marisa Urbano, explained: “We figured our friends and maybe their friends would be nice and kind and share with each other.
“Never, ever did we think this was going to happen.”
