A study has recently shown that dogs and their owners walk a massive 23,739 miles over their pet’s life time. This study has been brought to attention after recent controversy over how often and how long should you walk your pet for.Three thousand pet took part in this study and have helped come up with the figure shown.

It is a great study that shows how much effort and time actually goes into owning a pet and looking after them. Walking your dog has great health benefits both for yourself and for your dog. As well as this incredible figure of miles, owners of their dogs did admit that they would love to walk their dog more and in fact their dog always seems eager to want to go out more for walks.

The main reasons for people not doing so, is they are too busy with work or other commitments, they want a day out or the weather. Dog owners also said that they prefer walks to the countryside however their lifestyle sometimes gets in the way of doing this. Over half of the people in the study said that walking their dog is their only form of daily exercise which is a staggering amount of people. Even this with statistic, 15 percent of dog owners say that walking their dog is one of the worst things about owning a dog.

Keeping your dog healthy by walking them regularly combined with a good diet and general lifestyle will reduce factors leading to trip to the vets and could even help you save money through doing so. Knowing these statistics hopefully will motivate people to get out there seven days a week and walk our dogs. Confining a dog to a small area will upset the dog and make the dog anxious. Allowing them a long walk daily and time in the garden is exactly what you need for a happy and healthy dog.
