Walle wins the 25th annual World’s Ugliest Dog Contest
Walle, a four-year-old beagle/basset/boxer mix, has been crowned the world’s ugliest dog after ‘winning’ a competition.
Reported by guardian.co.uk, Walle managed to see off competition from 29 other contenders in the World’s Ugliest Dog Contest and can now sleep easy in his dog bed after securing a $1,500 (£972) prize.
According to indiatimes.com, Walle has a huge head, a short and thick stature and waddles like a duck when walking, which proved to be endearing qualities in the eyes of the contest’s producers and judges.
Brian Slobel, one of the contest’s judges, commented on the pooch’s appearance: “This dog looked like he’s been Photoshopped with pieces from various dogs and maybe a few other animals.”
Another judge, Jon Provost, said that Walle “looked like an experiment that went wrong.”
However, Walle’s owner Tammie Barbee proved that beauty is merely in the eye of the beholder as she exclaimed her love for the hybrid.
“Everybody always says that there’s something wrong with him – his head’s too big, his back is too short. It’s nice to win at something,” said Barbee. “People come up to me and say that the dog is not right, but I love him.”
It’s not just Barbee that loves Walle, though. American TV shows are lining up out the door to book the pooch, with Walle already securing an appearance on talk show ‘Jimmy Kimmel Live’.
